The Captain's Cottage is in a truly wonderful location down a private road to Davison Head. It overlooks the beach at the Isthmus which is a popular spot to sit and enjoy some of the most spectacular sunsets you’ll ever see! The Cottage is situated on its own half acre lot with several old growth cedar trees and abundant wildlife. The privacy you will find here may be just what you’re looking for.

Built originally as a fishing shack, it has been totally remodeled into a cozy seaside cottage for two. The kitchen is well equipped including full sized stainless steel appliances and a gourmet range. The living room has large picture windows to bring in the light and view regardless of the season. The bathroom includes a pedestal sink and tiled shower. The bedroom features a custom-made Craftsman style Queen bed, a quality mattress, and a new wall mounted Smart TV with YouTube subscription including local channels. Outside is a great deck with a propane BBQ and comfortable seating. The perfect place to enjoy dinner and a glass of wine during the summer evenings.

Roche Harbor Resort and Marina is a pleasant walk away. Follow the charming country road and discover a “secret” pathway which leads you on a scenic route along the water’s edge. The recreational options are endless. Everything from Orca whale watching, kayaking, bicycling, hiking, shopping and dining. Bring your own kayak and launch from the Isthmus, Posey Island is only a short paddle away!

"CLEAN!!!! Finally, a clean place. Thank you for not allowing pets. We love pets but we don't want to stay in a kennel. This was the cleanest place we have stayed yet, we loved it. The location is great, the cabin has everything you need, and the kitchen is completely equipped. Very comfortable and relaxing, we will be back.

Perfect Cottage and a great getaway

We had such a lovely time at this cottage! First of all, the staff (especially, Leila) are amazing!! Leila worked with my best friend to surprise me with flowers in the house upon arrival. Above and beyond. The house is super cozy, has everything, safe. We had deer outside the door, birds, beautiful trees and a partial view of the water. I would suggest bringing a car here as it is about 2 miles to Roche Harbor. However, you do have a view of the water and it is literally a sanctuary. I only wish we had more time to hang out! The home is clean, great stove, kitchen, streaming tv, nice appliances. We will definitely recommend this to others.

Just perfect!

This rental far exceeded our expectations - the pictures don't do it justice! The location was very quiet and had a lovely view. The cottage was extremely clean and well-equipped. There wasn't a single thing missing - the bed was comfy, the kitchen had everything we needed (and more!), cozy throws for the living room, etc. The deck was a peaceful place to start and end the day. We did a lot of hiking and found the location to be an easy drive to Lime Kiln, American Camp, and, well, everywhere - it is a small island! A beautiful natural setting - we were even awakened by fox calls on our last night! Highly recommend. :)

Same time next year!

Captain's Cottage is our favorite getaway on San Juan Island. Its tranquil setting, water view, well-stocked kitchen, fir floors, comfy bed, and plush towels make it a very special place. Relaxing stay

This is a small but updated and well appointed property. My wife and I had a great time. The neighborhood is full of nice homes and vacation/summer homes. It is only a little over a mile to Roche Harbor and my wife and I walked to and from Roche Harbor daily. While small the bathroom and kitchen function very well. The proximity to the water is fantastic. We really enjoyed the gas fireplace during the early November cool air. It;s only about an 8 mile drive to Friday Harbor. Great spot!!!

Great anniversary getaway

The Captains Cottage provided a cozy and welcoming venue for us to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We found it extreme clean and well-equipped. We had some initial difficulty opening the lockbox in pouring rain and darkness, but got help quickly with a phone call to the management. Great location for walking to Roche Harbor and close to English Camp and Young Hill.

Peaceful getaway

Most relaxing place ever!

The moment we arrived at Captains Cottage we knew we had made the right choice - it was lovely, picturesque, clean comfortable . . . Everything we wanted in our stay. The view was lovely also being so close to the water. We walked every day around the beautiful, scenic neighborhood. It was slightly chilly but paddleboarded in the bay. We walked almost daily to Roche Harbor,. No one seemed to mind at all that we went down the dirt road on the shoreline, which comes out right in Roche Harbor.

Initially the warming stove / fireplace wasnt working but someone came right out to get it going for us. We felt like the property management was very attentive. No complaints. We plan certainly to return and highly recommend!

The dirt road along the shoreline you are talking about is part of the old Tangney Memorial Drive and is owned by Roche Harbor. Peace and Tranquility awaits!

I can't wait to stay here again! The setting is peaceful and perfect. The amenities are great. I loved having a full kitchen, and then some, available to me. They've thought of just about everything a person could want in a vacation rental. The home was very clean, very comfortable and, very inviting.

I only have 2,000 characters to use for my review? Not enough!

I love San Juan Island as my vacation destination. I love to spend time at Lime Kiln State park and take in the scenery as I await the orcas. I love Pelindaba Lavendar Farms, San Juan Cellars, Roche Harbor, San Juan Coffee Roasters, and the Gourmet shop. I love the views from above South Beach and Cattle Point. I love that I always get a visit from a red fox and a black fox and all the deer. I love the nature of San Juan and the slower pace of life (45 miles per hour please!). The island is so accessible. The sunsets are grand.

Cutest Little Island Getaway

We enjoyed a romantic weekend in this charming island getaway. The cottage is pretty and clean, set back in the trees with peekaboo views of the water. An eagle nests in the tree behind the house, and deer, bunnies, and foxes visit at dusk. Highly recommend.

Quiet, serene, and surrounded by nature.

My wife and I loved this cozy cottage nestled atop a knoll among the pines. Quiet and serene, and just a short drive, or healthy mile walk, to Roche Harbor.

We had our morning coffee on the deck overlooking the small bay. And fresh salmon on the efficient gas grill in the evening, while we watched a mother and baby deer and small gray fox who visited us.

The especially comfortable bed and top-notch furnishings are wonderful.

We highly recommend this charming spot. We'll be back!

Cabin in the woods

This little house was clean and well equipped with everything we needed for an enjoyable stay. The bed was especially comfortable and the propane woodstove was a cozy touch. However, this cabin was more in the woods than the photos depict and it really does not have the view the description suggests. It is not really walkable to Roche Harbor as mentioned fact, the information book showed that you would be trespassing if you did. A little difficult to find from offered directions as well.

Nicely appointed and well maintained cabin. A unique experience complete with deer, birds and an ever changing view of the water. Very comfortable. Keep a close look out for the "hidden" drive on your right just as you reach
the street it is on.
