*** This home is people friendly, and not pet friendly. ***
When you stay at Three Coves Hideaway, you’ll enjoy a San Juan Island location that is second to none. The home faces west over Haro Straight, so you will bask in amazing sunsets and have a view of the twinkling lights of Victoria BC at night. Oh, and since you’ll have a front row seat over the migratory route of our resident Orca whales, it’s very likely that you’ll hear them blowing and be able to watch them doing their whale thing right from your deck! Three Coves is also adjacent to beautiful San Juan County Park, a world-renowned destination for kayaking. A path leads from the property to the park so those so motivated might carry a kayak down a path that leads to the park. (Those less motivated might simply drive a minute or two to the beach.) There is also a path that leads downward to a private cove that is shared with a few nearby residences.
Couples and families will find this home spacious and comfortable. The kitchen is a chef’s dream, featuring granite counters, a deluxe gas stove, a large island capped with butcher block, and all the household items you need for meal preparation. The great room includes a dining table, elevated bar table, plush leather seating, a cozy wood-burning fireplace (BYOWood), and window seats focused to the view. The master bedroom is also on this main level, featuring a king size bed and en-suite bath with jetted tub, separate shower, and dual vanities. A powder room is also on this main level.
Upstairs, a large loft overlooks the living room below. This is where you’ll head to watch satellite TV, and high speed fiber internet for listening to music, and play a game of pool. One of the sofas opens to form a queen size bed. Two additional bedrooms are located downstairs. One offers a private deck and a second king size bed, the other bedroom is equipped with both a twin bed and a double bed. These bedrooms share a bath with shower and dressing table. A laundry/utility room is also on this lower level. It is impossible not to have an incredible vacation. There's even a new outside propane fire pit to experience when you stay at Three Coves Hideaway.
Please note there are 13 steps to get to the entrance.

This was a Family reunion for five people and our dog. The location was wonderful, the house was spacious the deck and the amenities in the kitchen were awesome. The beds were super comfortable which is very important. Unfortunately the property wasnt very clean, floor sticky, tables and deck dirty. I would have given 5 stars across the board if not for these things. We cleaned the place ourselves. Thankfully beds and baths were very clean. The location snd house is great. The house could use some updates, like curtains in family room, windows that open for air and new shades in bedroom. Even with these issues I would stay here again. The pool table, kitchen, comfy beds, deck and grill made it. Plus having our pet was a really nice.
Disappointing. The house was completely dark inside & out making it very difficult to find the keys & enter in the pouring rain. The temp inside the house was 48 degrees it took over 4 hours to get it to 68. Totally unacceptable for the arrival of winter guests. There were spiderwebs all over the house & the master bath cabinets were dirty. Everything that previous guests have noted broken for the last 2 years WERE STILL BROKEN! There were labels claiming they were under repair but obviously they are not. There was a window blind in the master completely missing, allowing a neighbor to look into the bedroom if they wanted. Clearly neither the owner nor the management care about the upkeep of this house or the comfort of their guests. Its a great view but that doesn't make up for the condition.
We had a fabulous family vacation in a lovely house at a spectacular location! The house was clean, well-appointed, with amazing views of the Haro Straits and nearby parks and beaches. We enjoyed the pool table and karaoke machine. The hot water was a little limited, but otherwise the home was perfect! The management company was terrific: we left behind a belonging and they found it promptly and mailed it to us. We cant wait to come back!
The location and views are amazing.
As we pulled up to Three Coves, some of J-Pod was passing by right out in front of the house - and so began a lovely few days at this spectacular island hideaway. The house provided an ideal base for exploring what San Juan Island has to offer kayaking off the beach, to eating oysters and the nearby oyster farm and through to sitting on the deck watching a sea-lion play in the water. And then there are the sunsets. Thanks very much!
1. When we arrived at the house, many of the bushes and trees were overgrown. There are branches hanging across the entry stairs that make it almost impossible to hold onto the railing as youre going up the stairs.
2.Once in the house, it became quickly apparent that the kitchen floor was so sticky... my brother had to mop the floors.
3.Many of the items in the kitchen were dirty. My sister in law and I had to scrub out both crock pots before we could use them. Many of the appliances are worn out and there are pans I would never use because the Teflon is completely worn off. Most of the seasonings were old and almost empty. There was no salt and pepper in the house so we bought some and filled up the shakers and left what we bought there for the next person.
4.The dishwasher racks are broken. The bottom rack is missing a wheel and it was difficult to load the dishwasher and get the rack back in the dishwasher.
5.There are mice. After the first day we found mice droppings all over the counters and we saw them other places in the house.
6.We saw that the ice maker in the fridge and handle in the shower were broken. The disappointing thing about that was, it appears this was reported in a review 2 years prior and it was still broken.
7.Part of the draw to the house was the outdoor fire pit... so we brought up a container of wood only to find out, we werent allowed to use the fire pit until October. All while everyone at the park had a fire every night. I feel we should have been notified that wouldnt be available.
8.The other reason we picked the house was because of the private cove.. but it seems like there really wasnt a private cove and that it was shared with the guests from the park.
This place is just not kept up. The view is remarkable... the deck is amazing... everything else was pretty disappointing. Especially for the amount of money we spent. Also, this p
We are truly sorry for this guests disappointing time at Three Coves Hideaway. She is correct that there were some tree branches that intruded on the home and its access. The owner hired a tree trimming service and this issue has now been completely eliminated. We are unaware of the sticky floor issue but our review for housekeeping cleanliness are extremely good. We have done a thorough clean of the kitchen floor but honestly could not find evidence of the condition the guest reported. We apologize for the guests feelings about the kitchen dishware, pots etc. being dirty. Checking all of these items are on our housekeeping checklist, but must have been missed in the prior clean. Our policy is to not leave food products in the home for guest use due to the possibility of contamination. Hence lack of seasonings and any other food products. Following this review, we have addressed the mouse issue and that has been cleared up. Mice most commonly enter the home when guests leave exterior door open or ajar. We have addressed the shower handle issue noted and the owner is replacing the refrigerator at end of season.
As to the Burn ban that was in effect during the guest's visit, that is a County Code and we cannot comment on why the nearby County Park allowed and outdoor fires. We are required to enforce any Burn Ban that is imposed. The fact that campers at the County Park were trespassing on private property has been addressed with signage at the property perimeter and with the County Park Officials. There will be no more trespassing on this owner's private property to their private beach. Guest from the Park have no right to visit the cove.
Three Coves Hideaway has been a very popular home in our program for a number of years and the Homeowner has been excellent at continuous upgrading of the home. A kitchen remodel is planned for this fall.2019.
General Manager, NW Island Escapes
We spent four days and nights here over New Years with family who had travelled from Britain and Germany. The kids played at the beach, the adults enjoyed the spectacular views from the huge windows and deck, we cooled festive meals in the large, well-stocked kitchen. The property manager was super helpful and friendly.
Thank you so much for your great review! We are very happy you enjoyed your stay and it's always interesting to hear that folks from other countries also enjoy and appreciate the beauty of our islands. We were very happy to welcome you and your group to Three Coves, and we hope you will explore another booking with us in the future.

We enjoyed a relaxing vacation at this amazing location overlooking the water and Vancouver Island in the distance. Breezes through the tall fir trees, water lapping on the beach below, the sailboats and fishing boats and kayaks passing by on the water--it was magical!
We really enjoyed the house. It had room for a larger family like ours, which can be hard to find. The kitchen was well-stocked with cooking supplies and the right appliances - even a waffle iron! The deck was great - we used it a lot. The only complaint we had was that it was described as having a "private" beach. It wasn't private at all. The beach was shared by the adjacent county park, and park guests used the whole beach. They were polite and the park was not a drawback in any other way, but it wasn't the beach we were hoping for. It was also fairly difficult to get to the beach, making kayaking less enjoyable. If you want a roomy house in a nice setting, this would be a great fit. If you want a nice house with easy beach access that is reasonably private, this might disappoint.
We had a great week enjoying many of attributes of the San Juan Islands. We appreciated the houses location close to the marina in Snug Harbor.
We had a great week enjoying many of attributes of the San Juan Islands. We appreciated the houses location close to the marina in Snug Harbor.
House was right where we wanted to stay, on the west side. It had everything, great views, privacy, and wildlife.
This house is perfect for whale watching. We could watch the orcas swim past from our lovely deck. We basically lived on the deck. It has a great grill and good furniture. There are tons of windows looking out on the water. It is away from the touristy feeling area. The house has everything you could need including a surprising number of spices, but could use some updates. The carpet needs to go. It feels a bit greasy and there is a musty smell downstairs. Also, the kitchen is huge, but the enormous island in the middle makes it almost impossible to get past others working in there. If you have pet allergies this is not the house for you. There was a good bit of dog hair in multiple places upon arrival even though the house had just been cleaned. We have pets back home; so, it wasn't a huge deal for us, but maybe a stronger vacuum should be used.
The house at Three Coves was great! We loved the location, and having breakfast and lunch looking out onto the water. Pam was very helpful and checked in with us often. Id definitely come back.
We're so glad you had a wonderful time during your visit and glad to hear that you had very good interactions with Pam. We hope you return soon! Best, General Manager
Virtually everything in this house is in some level of disrepair. From broken locks, broken lights, broken chairs, broken handles, broken windows, broken ice maker, broken warming tray, broken shower handles...the list is endless. The rugs are old and stained...the roof leaks...all the smoke detectors are missing. The management company is sympathetic, but not particularly helpful (they had the wrong codes for the lock box and the wifi!) Mostly, all the broken stuff was just an inconvenience. The view is lovely, but it's lovely from a lot of other places too, for less money and fewer problems.
Dear Guest - Thank you for choosing to visit the Islands and for staying with us at Three Coves Hideaway. I sincerely apologize for the trouble you had during your stay and am currently inquiring to understand the problems better. We seek to provide a very high quality rental experience for all our guests and I am concerned that it appears as though that has not occurred here. Best Regards, General Manager
It's hard to imagine there could be a home on the island with a more spectacular view! If we were at the house, we were outside on the deck enjoying the view, enjoying a glass of San Juan wine, watching a harbor seal in the cove below us, dolphins, ships & sailboats passing, deer roaming all around the house. Even after dark, we sat outside & enjoyed a sky full of stars and ships passing silently in the dark. There was an island burn ban in effect, so we were unable to use the lower firepit or the deck firepit. Would have been lovely on chilly evenings. The top two floors of the home are gorgeous. The lower floor is in need of a paint job and new carpet (or at least a thorough carpet was dirty!), but the bed was very comfortable. Clearly, the home is a work in progress...the first two floors are completed and the lower floor is next. There were a few items in disrepair (icemaker, deck umbrella, trash compactor, warming oven)...just minor inconveniences. We enjoyed every moment in this home and are already planning our next stay. I am Canadian and loved looking across Haro Strait to Vancouver Island. We fell in love with this island and cannot wait to return!

Update: We spoke with the owner and they do indeed plan to do the downstairs painting, replace carpet, update parts of the bathroom and update the lighting in that area of the house. Thank you for bringing up this concern and giving us the opportunity to respond. Best Regards, General Manager
This home has a gorgeous view of the Haro Strait with beach access. It was great to store our kayaks down there for the ease of going out and returning, and it is a short distance to Lime Kiln with it's often abundance of marine animals. It has a good layout for a large group, large kitchen and great room, expansive deck. It does need someone in the management to go through and identify things that need fixing. Also it was clear the carpeting needed cleaning. Otherwise a wonderful San Juan house.

We had an amazing family vacation at 3 Coves Hideaway #111. The house and location were perfect. We loved the views; saw whales from the deck. Gathering on the deck was our favorite spot; wasn't sure we would spend time in the house at all until it rained and then we enjoyed hanging out together in the spacious living room and playing pool in the loft. Definitely recommend this house; loved our time on the San Juan Island and coming back to the house to recharge for the next excursion! All family members agreed it was the perfect Smithcation location. A great time was had by all!!!
I couldn't have asked for a more perfect house and location for our family reunion.
The house had great space for a family get together with a large dining table that fit 8 people, many sitting spaces to relax and play games and a pool table. The deck had a fire place along with a fire pit that over looked the water with a great view of a Wildlife Refuge for animals mostly birds.
The kitchen was well equipped to cook for the family along with a barbeque outside.
The house is next door to the county park where a person can put in a kayak and a short drive to Lime Kiln State Park, the best place to watch for orcas. Unfortunately the resident population is not frequenting the area due to the lack of food - the salmon.
Had a great time on the island and the house was perfect for our family celebration.
Wonderful! Can't wait to come back!
We spent four wonderful nights on San Juan Island at Three Coves near San Juan County Park. Having spent many summers camping at San Juan County Park this location has a special place in our hearts. Finding a house so close to the park on this side of the island was such a fantastic surprise! The house was so spacious and the property was beautiful to explore. We hope to visit again someday!
We had a few small issues but wanted to alert you to them simply for the benefit of you having the information.
-We found a few soiled cooking dishes in the cupboard when we went to use them. We washed and returned them but thought you would want to know.
-Also, there is a large yellow jacket nest on the path going down to the beach - it's on the left side just after you turn the corner and start the descent.
-An incredibly large tree spider came visiting from under the dishwasher. After much jumping and screaming we did manage to kill and dispose of it.
-Being allergic to feathers caused a bit of a problem but in hindsight we should have asked about down pillows and comforters.
-Knowing ahead of time we could not wear shoes in the house would have been helpful as we would have brought inside only slippers. I don't recall seeing that in the information we received.
Our family had a wonderful time celebrating a 70th birthday and a 45th wedding anniversary. The weather was perfect which allowed us to use the spacious deck area to gather and to eat. The deck was also a place to spot whales and watch all types of water craft passing by. A short hike below the house is a nice gravel beach. We were able to launch a small motor boat less than a 1/4 mile away at a public park.
The property was accurately described. The kitchen was well equipped although a bit crowded due to the large island. The loft area was great for playing pool or watching TV. There was a variety of bedroom sizes and plenty of bathrooms that were well supplied.
We had a memorable 4 days at Three Coves and would love to go back again.
Dear Guest, Thank you for visiting the Islands and for choosing to stay with us. We also very much appreciate your feedback here as well as your kind comments. Three Coves is a wonderful property and a location we all enjoy visiting. We sincerely hope you will return soon! Best Regards, General Manager
Great 4 days. We had 2 families and grandma (8 people). This place is very livable for a group size of around 8. We were able to move in quickly, make meals easily, have enough room to take a break from each other from time to time and have periodic personal whale shows from the deck. Quiet at night with relaxing breezes coming in windows.
San Juan Island is amazing, it was wonderful to have a house where it could be serviced. Had a few problems with minor issues and a handyman was sent to fix them. As far as the description of the home itself it was accurate. Although what they don't tell you is that the property is right next-door to the San Juan Island County campgrounds. Be prepared for lots of noise and screaming children. I did enjoy the campfire smells at night but the screaming children Ruined the peace and quite I was looking forward to. As for the "privat beach" well it is shared with the campgrounds, not private and anyway shape or form. I actually call those false advertising. The home it's self was fairly clean with the exception of the floors the first night while unpacking I sliced my foot open was shards of glass that were left on the floor.

When we arrived the view was amazing. Watched whales go by a couple of the days we were there. Little island just off shore was great to watch bald and golden eagles fish for salmon. Saw 7 on it a one time. Rooms were good size, kitchen was cramped with too large of an island, made cooking difficult. Master was nice and bath was nice but carpet throughout house desperately needed replacing especially in Master bath, not a fan of bathroom carpet. We had a couple issues with house itself. #1 oven didn't work and we were not told until we opened it. Three days later it was fixed, not good for a family of 6 and three 20 something boys. #2 it has no A/C and very few windows that open, so not much ventilation, plus no curtains on windows that face West, not good. Upstairs loft was a sauna and could not be used for most of trip. #3 master bedroom was missing a curtain so had to use a sheet and guest room had none, very uncomfortable for our daughter. A few other minor things that were overlooked from their cleaning crew, but otherwise a nice experience. If they can fix the problems this house would be our yearly rental.
Dear Guests, Thank you for visiting the Islands and choosing us to assist you with your experience. We also appreciate the feedback here and in the time since your review have re-doubled our efforts in these areas. We do hope you will return and contact us to assist you with your next vacation. Best Regards, General Manager
Great view and location to enjoy the San Juans. Deer stop by, see the Orcas come by. Beds very comfortable and the house is well stocked.
This location was smack between Roche and Friday Harbors so we could easily go to one or the other. The water in front of us provided views of the Orcas every day we were there! House was perfect for the family.
