Painted Rock is our newest home addition on Lopez Island. This home stands out due to its unique waterfront location on the south end of the island. Painted Rock provides breathtaking southeasterly views over Mud Bay, to Lopez Sound, all while painting a beautiful portrait of Mt. Baker in the distance. You can literally spend hours bird watching and/or viewing the tides flow in and out of the bay. It’s a good life to say the least.
Painted Rock provides an open floor plan with large view windows in the kitchen (Updated with all new appliances!), dining and living room areas, all overlooking the bay. This 3-bedroom (3 queen beds with master bedroom and ensuite bath on the upper floor), 2 bath home feels light, fresh and modern while providing all the comforts of home. Its large deck is perfect for grilling and dining outside on summer evenings or drinking your morning coffee while soaking in the sunshine. There is even easy access to the beach which also has a small dock, perfect for bringing your kayaks down to the water. This home also features a buoy out front for mooring your boat as a jump off place to conveniently explore the islands (please contact us first if you plan to use the buoy).
Lounge in the back yard above the beach. Take a nap in the hammock, or kayak (kayaks not supplied but can be rented in the Village) around the bay. Inside, get a board game going at the large dining room table, or snuggle up in the comfy living room with a book, or a good movie. All the while, you never need to leave the views behind! This home is perfect for everyone!
Painted Rock is down a private gravel road in a quiet, secluded island neighborhood. You can walk or take a short drive to Hunter Bay where there is a boat ramp and dock, should you be bringing a boat to the Island. This home is just a few miles from the Southend Market and Café, and close to the famous Watmough beach and Iceberg Point. It is also an easy ten-minute drive to all of the wonderful attractions of Fisherman Bay andLopez Village. Food, dining out, and so many quaint island shops to explore. Lopez Island has so much to enjoy.
Please note this home as 4 steps on a gravel path leading to the entrance of the home.

Great location on quiet bay ; waking to morning fog or sunlight on water that looked like ice; birds, harbor seals, deer, and even gunkholers-read the book on shelf in house]; plus very few insects; clean house with all comforts of home; quiet island, much to do relaxing, reading, hiking, biking, kayaking, boat tour, cute little town of Lopez village with well stocked Lopez Market Grocery with deli and libations; some call-outs of nice places -- Brewvado Tap Room, Haven Kitchen & Bar, Grind Coffee Shop, Vortex Cafe & Juice Bar; many parks and hikes and views of the bays and waters around the island; a plus was the Orcas Island Sunset Cruise on very old one of a kind 'high seas motor yacht' designed by naval architect John Alden in Boston circa 1935; and our seafood dinner at the outdoor Orcas Island Buck Bay Shellfish Farm; etc..etc..; will definitely return to the San Juan islands again;
Fabulous location and beautiful home with amazing views! We had such a peaceful and relaxing time that we never left during the 4 days we were there. Swinging on the hammock overlooking the water with views of Mt Baker and songbirds singing was really special! We loved all the sweet painted rocks that were everywhere, it was like a treasure hunt seeing them tucked in all around the property!! We cant wait to return for another lovely stay at Painted Rock House!!
Wonderful trip. Beautiful house in beautiful location!
Beautiful house on the water with the beach right below. Was a great stay for our family.
Awesome and serene place to stay, with gorgeous views and easy water access. The house layout is well thought out. The furnishings are comfortable, the kitchen is well stocked, and has all you need for a relaxing time.
The amazing view at the Painted Rock House made for a very fun getaway. The house feels spacious and is well-designed to make great use of the views. Some of the appliances are dated but still functioning OK. Communication with the agency was good although the internet instructions were inaccurate and it took them some time to get back to us. We disliked the system of signing a rental agreement for an Airbnb, especially using PandaDoc which can use your info any way they want.
Lopez house with million dollar view. The property location is very relaxing. Perfect for small friends / family relaxing retreat.We were not impressed by the $160 cleaning fee and found the house a bit dirty. We arrived to find the dishwasher completely full of dirty dishes. The 2nd lease agreement mandated by NW island escapes felt invasive. Cool spot with amazing view. However, due to cleaning fee and second lease agreement Ill look for a different spot on my next trip to Lopez.
Beautiful location on the water! We saw a lot of birds over five days, and even a glimpse of an otter and a seal and a Richard Serra sculpture across the bay. We brought our kayak and it was super easy (especially with the provided boots) to launch from the muddy beach at low tide, even easier right from the platform at high tide. The bay is so calm it would be great for SUPs as well. The house was great, it feels like a familys very loved vacation home, with an interesting mix of art and mostly MCM furniture, and lots of hand painted rocks. We stayed with my parents and one year old and it was the perfect amount of space. Bring bikes if you can! Beyond a killer hill to get out of the neighborhood, it was the best way to enjoy the island and see the many cute baby farm animals. Also bring cash, lots of opportunities to buy produce/eggs from self service stands near the house. We want to come back in warmer weather to enjoy the great deck and fire pit!
I love this end of the island for easy access to our favorite trails and beaches.
